Searching for a wheelchair user to trial new activity route on River Thames,

Hi Everyone, my name is Neil Clarke and I am project co-ordinator at the Thames Explorer Trust.

We are developing a self-guided circular activity walk called the Thames Explorer Challenge, which encompasses the Thames Path on its route north and south of the River Thames between Tower Bridge and Millennium Bridge in Central London, and we are eager for wheelchair users to fully participate.

On the Thames Explorer Challenge users will follow a map and clues to discover interesting facts and answer questions about this part of the River Thames and the city of London. The facts and questions are themed around the way people have used and interacted with the River Thames in this part of London over the last 2,000 years, and why the River Thames (and the way we interact with it) remains important to us in the present day.

The route itself is approximately 4.5km long and will take around 1.5 hours to complete. We would hope to conduct this pilot trial on either Tuesday 10th of December, Wednesday 11th of December, or Thursday 12th of December 2019

As a result of this pilot trial we would hope that the wheelchair user could help us identify any accessibility issues on the route which we could then mitigate in order to provide a Thames Explorer Challenge that is as accessible as possible to all.

Would anyone in this community be able to help us find a person who uses a wheelchair for our pilot trial of the Thames Path Challenge?

Any wheelchair user who agreed to take part in the trial would be accompanied by a Thames Explorer Trust member of staff on the route, and we would be able to pay the wheelchair user £60 in thanks for participating.

Thanks Everybody! Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Hi @NeilClarke

Welcome to our online community it’s great to meet you today.

This does sound very very interesting.

Unfortunately I currently live in the West Midlands so that means that it’s impossible for me to help “sorry”

I can forward it to another member of the team to see if they can help you?????

     Hi @Pippa_Scope

Thanks everyone for your brilliant responses! :)
Hi April2018mom,. What we'd like to do is to trial the route in order to identify any difficulties in accessibility. The whole thing should take around 2 hours and one of our staff would be with you to record the findings. Any of the following stations are the starting points of the route: Tower Hill, Blackfriars, London Bridge. Would you be able to get to one of these stations from where you live? If not we may be able to arrange a taxi to transport you to one of these start points. Would you be available Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday next week? Many thanks!

I am not available next week unfortunately but if you have been  unable to find anyone else to help I may be able to arrange a date in the New Year to help out I use both manual and electric wheelchairs but I think for the purposes of your route it would be best in a manual wheelchair as I will need a carer and lots of tourists would have carers so you can also get input from the person pushing re things like seats to stop and rest, how it feels to push for so long, access toilets on the route etc.

Is this for children? My 3 year old son is a full time wheelchair user. I’ll message you tomorrow.

Would love to but it's a bit short notice. Will it run again after Christmas?
