hello I'm studying to become a Midwife and I'm really interested to hear about birth experiences. would anyone like to share? Do you think your disability affected the care and choices you were given? What could have been improved? I'm a mum of 6 myself (oldest 7 youngest 6 months) and was deemed high risk and made to feel I didn't have a choice in my own healthcare.....

Hi @MamaDonDons Welcome to the community great to have you on board. I am sure some of our members will be happy to share their experiences with you.
I am a mother but I wasn't disabled when I had my son though I was classed as high risk due to diabetes and being 39
However I felt everything was done in my own or my babys interest and understood the need for additional caution to keep us both safe -

Hi @MamaDonDons and welcome to the community! I'm currently 20 weeks pregnant, to begin with I felt very out of place as my midwife had never heard of some of my conditions before. However, we had an appointment today and I really can't fault her, shes taken everything on board and is extremely supportive.
We are yet to discuss a birth plan, but bits and pieces have been mentioned. They've been in contact with my specialists at Addenbrooke's (who deal with my more complex condition) and it's very reassuring that they are finding out as much information as possible.
I do feel very included in everything, I'm sorry you didn't have a good experience.Disability Gamechanger - 2019 -
