I'm afraid that you need a lot of signatures for anything whatsoever to happen and so far you have 47, to stand any chance of this going before parliament you will in all reality need 100,000 signatures for that reason I won't be signing, but @read i wish you luck (you will need it i'm afraid)
I would also add that curriculums in schools are pretty full, with little or no time to add anything else.
2024 The year of the general election...the time for change is coming 💡

Hello @read It's lovely to meet you.  Well done you for acting on something you are passionate about.

I agree that disability should be a core component of children's primary curriculum and there's many academic studies to back up that it deserves its place there.  For more information on research conducted, visit the University of Leeds Disability Equality in English Primary Schools webpage or read this ESCR article.

Have you thought about sharing the petition link on social media sites to get more signatures? You could even tag in high profile disability advocates and disabled celebrities to share it with their networks.  If you need any help give me a shout and I will do my best to support you with it :). Good luck!

    Hi @read
How are you? Firstly, thank you for joining us and welcome to the community. Thank you for sharing your petition with us, it is such an important topic and I applaud you in following your passion and trying to make change that is needed. This is something I am very passionate about and something I too am trying to implement. I believe if children are educated about disability it massively reduces stigma and I think it helps disabled people to feel less isolated, but we have a long way to go to achieve this and so I support your petition. I have signed and will share. Thank you.

Hi @read I've put your new post with this one so we can keep all people's questions in one place to make it easier for you to spot and respond to them.

I hope you managed to read @WestHam06 's message.  I think you two share a lot of the same passion about this issue and could have some interesting conversations :)

    Hi @read
Hope that you are well. I am also keen to talk about disability inclusion in the curriculum and also raising awareness of different disability and removing this idea that disabled people are unable to do certain things. Please may I ask, how do you think would be best to engage children in learning about disability? For me, one of the key elements is children visibly seeing people with disabilities within the school environment and the wider community. I am currently working with my old secondary school to see how I can use my experiences as a disabled person as part of their mentoring programme. There are so many ways to positively demonstrate how people with disabilities positively contribute to society and that by understanding disability we can all work together for a society where there is equality for all. I have also posted here on the community to try to understand other people's thoughts on this very important topic, very happy to share these with you. Thank you.
Thank you @Cher_Scope, I look forward to the conversations with @read, thank you.

    Hi @read
Brilliant, please do let us know how you get on with the BBC East of England with regard to promoting your petition. Please may I ask, what issue would you like to talk about first? Please may I ask a question, how best do you feel is it to increase disability awareness in schools? By this I mean in what format do you think would work best? Thank you
