My son does not understand what it means to be dead. I have tried explaining the best I can, but he just seems to think it means mummy has gone somewhere else.
I could use some advice from someone who has had similar.

There is a really good book called 'what does dead mean?' Aimed at young children, very clear and unambiguous. It's important to keep explanations short and avoid ephemisms such as 'is at rest' etc as this can be really confusing. He's bound to find it confusing and may (or may not) ask loads of questions. It may help to contact Winstons wish too.
