Recently lost use of right leg. Any tips that may help around the house?

Hi,
I've recently lost the use of my right leg. I have Spina Bifida but have always managed fine, being very independent. I live with my partner, work, drive, do housework, shopping, all the normal day to day things everyone does. I have always walked round the house with one walking stick, but am now forced to use my old elbow crutches which I'm finding very difficult, awkward and cumbersome. I also can't put my wheelchair in or take it out of the car boot now so am having to rely on work colleagues every morning and evening, as well as my partner in order to do any shopping, which I hate!
Has anyone any ideas on any kind of equipment I might be able to use to help around the house? I can barely stand to put the kettle on now! Also, any tips for a small person who finds it almost impossible to put my RGK wheelchair into the car myself?

    Hi @lisat3103, you might find some useful tips on Scope's information page on disability equipment, or on our community tips page (I'm currently in the process of updating the latter so you might also like to check the page again at the end of the week. One general tip I recall that may help around the house is altering your lightswitches and appliances to work via remote control (you can find these light switches and appliances in places like Maplins or on Amazon).

    Have you thought about a care life or a found away scooter I have one it goes in most cars taxies trains buses etc it weighed about 24kg my wife can put it in car or Taxie for me etc

    There are devices that can lift a wheelchair into a roof mounted box @lisat3103 .
    Around the house it might be better to have a wheelchair with a built-in lift. That might be easier and cheaper than modifying the kitchen and house. Have a google of both those things.

    It's the little things that make life easier and one of my favourite little things is a Muggi, it's a tray but it also keeps mugs steady whilst making a cuppa. I bought it after tipping a mug of hot tea on my legs!
