Is your tumble dryer safe?
The makers of Hotpoint and Indesit has changed its advice and warned customers not to use their tumble dryers if they are subject to a recall. They said, in some cases, excess fluff can come into contact with the heating element and present a fire risk.
Indesit said the advice follows a safety review of their products, which "identified a potential concern with two types of tumble dryers manufactured between April 2004 and September 2015."
You can check if your tumble dryer is affected here. If it is affected, you are advised to "unplug" affected tumble dryers and "do not use it" until they are modified by an engineer.
Mine is one of the ones affected and so my house is filled with wet clothes on radiators at the minute, just a word of warning, that it has been a real struggle to get through on the phone to them, you can try to contact Indesit on 0800 151 0905 if you have any concerns.

Thanks Sam! Yes, you are absolutely correct. I have stopped using and also got an email from money-saving advice website which I think is really good.

I called whirlpool and arranged an engineer to fix it on Monday
(they were helpful e. G. Said if the timing was difficult I could call and rearrange. When I said I couldn't get downstairs to get serial number they were great)
BUT after reading above and calling whirlpool back.... They have given me the number for the tumble dryer helpline....
0800 1510905
.... With the possibility of replacing our tumble dryer with a new one with a £59 charge.... Am going to call now and see. -
@Sam_Scope thanks cos if you hadn't posted I wouldn't have checked!

So, very excited. Have called the hotline above, no waiting, lovely lady. To replace our 10 year old hotpoint dryer we had the option of free repair or paying £99 for brand new machine. Its a great model so we've gone for it and they are delivering on Tuesday. They are taking our old machine away.
So am pleased with resolution. phew! -
The advice is to "unplug machine and don't use"
I cant unplug device until engineer guys come so I asked if the being plugged in bit was unsafe. They said it was fine to keep plugged in just don't use. Though that may be useful to others unable to unplug. -
They are coming to do the modification on ours, I wish they'd have offered a new one for £99 though!Scope
