Basically I have ptsd from bullying, I got dragged around a 6th form trip for 3 solid days being laughed at ridiculed by 110 people, I was 33 when I took sertraline for depression, I started to regain memories NOT of the original trauma but 17 years of an entire town triggering my PTSD because they find it funny watching me react to it, have angry outbursts, breakdowns.
I hear all this abuse in everyday noises, crowds are the worst, it gets that bad that I can't concentrate or recall things I know, I also still have black outs of memory, triggered.
I have been trying for therapy for 5 years now , I forget miss appointments therapist/dr/dwp/pip. I can go for a therapy session and not remember leaving or the rest of my day. I have been to work program, with ingeus and not remembered my appointment.
What help is available?

    Hi @CPTSDJOHN

I am sorry to hear about what you have and are continuing to go through. There is help and support out there for people with memory loss but unfortunately a lot of it centres around Alzheimer’s as this is the most common cause of memory loss.

The best person to be able to either give you support or sign post you to appropriate support within your area would be your GP however I hear what you are saying around missed appointments.

I found a very useful advice post about aids to help with memory loss. It refers to apps for smart phones but by far the biggest help will be routine and a diary. If you can use this to help you with the appointments the other support will follow.

Thanks for the reply guys, my gp just re-refers me to local therapy, cbt /emdr are the only options, its hard to get a routine going which is what cbt is really, simple things like going  out anywhere, shopping etc. I hear memories in everything which sends me on one, I definitely have avoidance issues. CBT is pointless, I can't concentrate enough for emdr, ask me about my past I block it out.
People always asked me why?what happened? I would recount my memories of this trip explaining what happened over the 3 days, they know what happened, they have heard my story 100's of times, yet without fail I would recall it all..embarrassing myself in the process. Triggered and Boom I had no memory of it. This I think is problematic in my therapy.
I applied for PIP, buts its impossible to get enough evidence to send them, all i can do is give details of my gp and my local mind service who just send them info of my missed appointments. the reason I applied was so I can afford to get about town, as I struggle. If I go out and get stressed I need an escape route rather than being stuck in distress.
It would have also helped with costs towards specialist therapy, from a qualified shrink. Hypnosis looks like it might help and is what I would have tried first.
I'm a handy guy but I just froze everytime I was triggered. I will end up smashing the **** out of people and getting into trouble at the end of the day, I'm **** off with people which is why I left my area to try and get help,  5 years on..I'm still a ****

Will ask about support group on my next appointment, what extra help do they provide, its the dwp so I'm guessing not much!

    Hi @CPTSDJOHN

It is clear to see your frustration in the lack of support you are receiving and the complete lack of provision to help people in your situation.

The assessment for PIP can be a real nightmare for people and the fact that you can't get the correct support means that the evidence you need will never be produced.

It sounds as though you have a couple of issues so perhaps if I can deal with them separately?

Can I ask if there was anything of use in the post I linked to? Helping you to cope with the memory loss will help with the other issues.

It's great that you have a treatment in mind - hypnosis and this is a method that can help many different mental illnesses but I understand that the money is an issue which leads to the third issue - PIP. Have you considered talking to your MP? MP's can be very supportive of the process and getting you the help that you need to be able to make a successful claim.

The process shouldn't be this long and this hard and am I sorry that you are having to suffer through this. I hope that some of the things I have suggested might help and please keep coming back and using the group for support.

    Rebecca
