Received letter from DWP on Friday re SMI Which states that SMI benefit finishes on 5th April 2018 and loan will start on 6th April 2018.
Firstly do they consider that less that 2 months notice is adequate for such an important decision to be made?
I am at present 70yrs old and my mortgage finishes in 2027 when I will be 79. Which means that I will be taking the loans for 9 years which means that it will total to between £9,000 to £10,000 to be paid back as well as: A) Mortgage co; Attached loans.
As the value of the property will just about be covering these debts, if the value of the property does not increase by more than £10,000, I will be destitute and homeless!
I am in receipt only of State Pension plus Pension Credit and SMI!
What's more, how come Serco are involved? I would have thought ,that, with the current state of private sector contracts, a better solution should be found!
I am desperate I just have no idea where to turn and can only hope to be gone before I'm 79

Hi Harry @harrysmallwood1 and welcome to the community. Good to have you with us, but I'm sorry to read that you're having such difficulties.
Now, SMI is outside my specialism and I can't say much about it, but I've done some looking around the site and found this link to a discussion on the subject: https://community.scope.org.uk/discussion/38559/smi-support-for-mortgage-interest-ending
You might have a look at it. And I'm going to do something here I've never done before, which is to try to tag a couple of people into this post who might be able to help: @PippaScope @BenefitsTrainingCo We can only see what happens.
Stay in touch, Harry, and let me know how things progress,
Warmest best wishes to you,
Richard -
Thanks Richard, I'm new on here so we'll see how I get on.
I'll look tomorrow and see what's on offer
Cheers, Richard (Harry that is!)
