I Don’t Know Whether To Celebrate Or What?
Had a letter from DWP Re: PIP Yearly Update
The New Daily Living Amount £57.30
Mobility Component. £22.65
I realise it's blatantly obvious, I presuming that I have got P.I.P., and it is higher amount than when was DLA.
But was expecting ( and I haven't had a letter yet ) a more informative letter explaining the award.
Also and I am ashamed to admit this but the Mobility Component. I was expecting more?
Spastic right leg and gout in left big toe, renders me virtually Immobile when I get this
Is the Mobility element a low rate?
The daily living amount is higher than the.Mobility, and really emphasised about my leg and walking problems.
But the letter in my opinion belittles my disability/leg/gout problems.
Or should I keep my mouth shut?
I emphasise again I am extremely grateful for the ward (presuming I have read right( a bit of paranoia))
Also Under the old D.L.A., award I had my car tax paid as part of my entitlement to D.L.A.,
Also the Bus Pass, and the Blue Badge?
Does this new amount entitle me to any future tax exemption?
If any of you could.please enlighten?
P.S., I have made enquiries at my excellent local C.A.B.

Hi oldngrumpy
Thanks for getting in touch.
This is then enhanced rate Daily Living and standard rate (you could call this lower rate, there are just two rates for Mobility) Mobility component of PIP.
You might want to challenge the Mobility award, though I would suggest that you need to carefully weigh up how important the current award is to you.
By this, I mean that you would want to be sure that your current award is fairly safe rather than going for a higher Mobility award if it's quite likely that it could be at the expense of the current award. The current award might give you increased entitlement to Employment and Support Allowance, for example.
Regarding the car tax issue, you only get the exemption if you have an enhanced award.
With blue badges, you only get automatic blue badge if you have an enhanced rate Mobility component, otherwise the blue badge is discretionary on the part of your local council. The bus pass will also be a locally decided entitlement. You 'd need to look at your local authority's policy, which will be published online.
I hope that this helps in terms of the information. Try to get local specialist advice about the PIP award - you could start at the Citizens Advice outlet in your local town, or if there is no such service, please contact the Scope Helpline.
Best wishes

Thank you for your detailed reply.
I will discuss this with a few advisors.
Thanks again -
Hi,£57.30 is not the Enhanced daily living award, it is in fact the Standard daily living. Enhanced daily living is £85.60 per week. The other amount is Standard mobility. For the free car tax then you will need Enhanced mobility BUT standard mobility will give you a 50% reduction in this. To claim this you will need to send your log book and all other documents, with payment to DVLA. You can't claim this reduction from any post office. See this link. For the Blue Badge you will need to see exactly where you scored those points for the mobility part. If you scored at least 8 points in the "moving around" part then this will automatically entitle you to the badge. If you didn't score it in that part then you'll need to see the criteria for your local council, as all councils are different. For the bus pass, it will depend on the criteria for your local council and where you scored those points in the mobility part of the PIP.If you don't agree with the decision then you have 28 days to ask for a Mandatory Reconsideration. You do risk losing everything you already have and they will look at the whole award again and not just part of it.Most MR decisions remain the same, so the likely hood of you having to take it to tribunal is very high.Good luck.
I would appreciate it if members wouldn't tag me please. I have all notifcations turned off and wouldn't want a member thinking i'm being rude by not replying. If i see a question that i know the answer to i will try my best to help. -
Hello oldngrumpy and poppy123456
Thank you for the correction, poppy23456. I thought I remembered a 50% rule, but couldn't find it for some reason when I looked at this post to reply to it last week. I have now found it on the government website:
https://www.gov.uk/financial-help-disabled/vehicles-and-transport
And of course £57.30 per week is the standard rate of the Daily Living component of PIP.
Very sorry if I have caused anyone confusion over this.

Hi
I would suggest you contact the DWP to get a copy of the assessment report.
You will then be able to see how you gained points and decide what you disagree with.
This will assist your advisor.
It takes a week or so to get a copy.
Hope this helps.
Keep us updated.

Hi @oldngrumpy, I agree with the comments above, request a copy of the assessors report so you can see where you’ve had points awarded. Once you have this you can decide if you want to take it further. As @Gill_Scope has confirmed, you would be entitled to a 50% reduction in vehicle tax if you are in receipt of standard rate mobility. Do keep us posted.

PS re the vehicle tax, you have to pay the full amount and then claim back the 50%. Daft but then the whole thing is daft!

This was copied and pasted from this link.a cheque or payable order (made out to ‘DVLA, Swansea’) for 50% of the full rate of car tax for the vehiclehttps://www.disabledmotoring.org/motoring/road-tax-50-reduction

Hi @poppy123456 and @oldgrumpy, if you’re applying for vehicle exemption i.e. 100% then you can do this as tax your vehicle, if you’re applying for the 50% reduction, and you want to drive your car straight away, then you have to pay the full amount and then send the documents to the dvla who will issue a refund. I’ve just called the dvla to check as I couldn’t find the link where I read about it a couple of weeks ago. Hope this clarifies the situation. It is a complete mine field.
