Hi,You can't claim carers allowance when claiming your state pension because of the overlapping benefit rule. What you will receive is an underlying entitlement to it. This could mean that you could be eligible for pension credit but of course claiming pension credit will depend on your circumstances. The following link will explain it all to you.

As he will be claiming his state pension in Feb then it won't be possible to be paid the carers allowance. Pension credit is means tested and claiming this will depend on household income. https://www.ageuk.org.uk/information-advice/money-legal/benefits-entitlements/pension-credit/
