DLA to PIP transition

I've just joined as I have this transition from indefinite DLA to the new transitory PIP and am worrying about all the things I've read on various web sites. My problem is chronic spinal pain and I have an electric tilt in space, reclinable wheelchair that I go out in and fear without it I'll be housebound. I get it through Motability through the higher rate DLA. I guess many of you have also had to face this inquisition, so would be good to read your stories and how you dealt with this challenge?

Hi @maryrosina and welcomeWhat stage are you at with your PIP application ?As you are probably aware, PIP is awarded to help with difficulties with some daily tasks and mobility and not for your condition or diagnosis. It is important to read and understand the PIP descriptors and criteria. You will need to give examples of what happens when you attempt each activity, any supporting evidence should also be submitted. You have read many worrying accounts on line but the majority of claims are processed first time with no problem. If you have any questions please just ask and we will do our best to assistBe all you can be, make every day count. Hi,
Thanks, just got the letter asking me to phone, so have been to doctor to get the details of specialist. Am seeing my own doctor later this month, local advice group;Diverse Abilities, suggest getting a letter from him explaining how the condition affects my everyday life. Am starting to photo copy all my medical letters over treatments from a LONG time ago as I've had this problem since 24 years old. -
@maryrosina - I've never claimed DLA but as far as I can gather from the posts on here it's a lot different to PIP. There seem to be a lot of posters (and I don't mean you!) who think that if you are on higher rate DLA then you should get higher rate PIP. This isn't necessarily the case.
PIP is about how your condition affects you.
I'd advise looking on the DWP website at the "DWP PIP assessment guidelines" so you know what it's about and seeing how you meet each of the 'descriptors'
Since it's based on how your condition affects you then you'll be pleased to know that you shouldn't need pages of evidence from years ago - I think just a couple of pages which confirm your diagnosis normally suffice.
Good luck with your application. AS @cockneyrebel says most claims are processed without any problem/// -
When you make the phone call they should ask if you want your DLA details taken into account

Hi,
Should I say yes?
-
Yes, if you want the DLA file to be used but that's your decision to make. When you receive the PIP form then my advice is to made sure you put as much information as possible about how your conditions affect you for each descriptor that applies. Adding 2-3 examples of what happened the last time you attempted that activity for each one.If you don't have enough time to return the form the ring DWP to ask for a further 14 days. Make sure to send relevant evidence to support your claim and don't expect them to contact anyone because it rarely happens. Expect a face to face assessment because most have them. Providing your form is returned on time your DLA will continue until a decision's been made on the PIP. Good luck.I would appreciate it if members wouldn't tag me please. I have all notifcations turned off and wouldn't want a member thinking i'm being rude by not replying. If i see a question that i know the answer to i will try my best to help.

When I had my move to PIP the question was never raised and to be honest I didn't know that it was possible after being told that the two benefits are poles apart.
If I had have been asked then I would have agreed as my DLA medical evidence was extremely relevant.

I've recently had a phone call about this and they asked me if I wanted my old DLA details taken into account.
They also said that a lot of the older DLA details have been lost though.
