does anyone know of social media sites where people like me, someone who is sick and disabled can go and not worry about being taken advantage of or being judged because he is sick and disabled.I'm a shy guy who is a little social anxiety problem and I'm a little uncomfortable posting a picture right away. I feel really oddly thinking people are looking at my picture and judging whether they want to talk to me on my picture. I don't Facebook because of this and I'm a little lonely. I'm just looking for someone I can talk and maybe send emails to. Does anyone know any good social media sites for this? I feel uncomfortable just asking this question. People think because I don't have Facebook there's something wrong with me but I just don't want to be judged. I have enough that in my everyday life.

Hi @Bam. I know you said you weren't keen on Facebook, but I just came across this post which mentions a closed Facebook group for people with physical disabilities. If you don't feel comfortable sharing your picture, you could possibly replace it with a picture of a cute animal or a cartoon as some people do. I hope that you also feel that this community is a place where you can talk to people without fear of being judged, and do let me know if there's anything I can do to help improve your experience here.

What group did you say it was? That might be kind of interesting. I was looking online for things to join and there are so many weird weird things out there. There's nothing really wrong with the stuff those people are interested in but it's a little unusual. It's extremely unusual for mope because I'm not really into social media so all of this is kind of new and strange to me. I was on this one site that I was talking to this one girl for a long long time.we became really close then I caught her lying about some stuff and then things fell apart. So, I'm just a little lonely. I miss getting those emails. It's tough for people with disabilities to go out and meet new people. You have to be so on guard all the time to protect yourself. So many people are looking to take advantage and steal from you because you're sick and disabled. I miss having an email pen-pal I can share my life with.

Is there is a category on here people can just meet and talk about life? I'm kind of new and haven't explored everything yet

This is the group @bam - https://www.facebook.com/groups/635337703290606/?ref=aymt_homepage_panel - I think you may need to create an account first, but then it's just a matter of pressing the 'join group' button. And yes the internet can be a very strange place at times and you're right to exercise caution.
With regards a category on here for chatting, I think the 'disabled people' category would be the best place to start a discussion. I will speak to my manager though about the possibility of creating a more general area for chat in future. -
Okay I joined and found the group and now what do I do? Is there a secret handshake? How do I get past that first page where it tells me how many members the group has. It said it was a closed group does that mean it's full capacity? Sorry if these are stupid questions but I really don't Facebook. People always make fun of me because I don't Facebook. I just don't want to hear ex-girlfriends telling people what a mean and terrible guy I am.

Hi @bam
usually with a closed group on Facebook you have ask to join, by clicking on the join button and an admin will authorise your membership. Small closed groups can be really useful for getting to know people.

Okay I asked now, how long does it usually take to get accepted. I think I probably would cry if I didn't get accepted. LOL I would think another group doesn't want me
-
Hi Bam, it will vary from group to group but could be from one to several days depending on how often the admin checks in. Nothing to worry about though - they're most likely only interested in stopping spammers from getting in

Hi @Bam, I'm pleased to say we've just opened a new 'coffee lounge' category to the community for general chatting. As it's just opened its a little bare, so feel free to dive in and start a discussion in the new category
