Hi all,

I hope you are enjoying the bank holiday weekend.

I have joined this forum to learn more about what to expect, challenge and create to ensure my son enters adulthood with the best opportunities and support I can arrange.

He is 16 in June with assessment, sld and challenging behaviour he is just undergoing assessment for specialist 6th form college. The funding for this usually lasts for 2 years. I know how quickly 2 years passes and know parents of young people who are 18 and they are not confident that the support being offered will meet their child and family needs.

I wondered if anyone has;
- set up their own day / respite provision
- worked in collaboration with other parents to employ carers
- worked with local authorities to develop services

I look forward to hearing your experiences, advice and ideas for my son living at home and accessing activities in his local community.  I currently work full time but not sure whether it is feasible to expect that this can continue.

Many thanks
