how can a learning disability be diagnosed

Through an educational psychologist usually. You need to see your GP and get referred.

@luther My son was diagnosed through the job centre when he was in the work Related activity group. He was forced to have tests in Maths and English and scores showed him having LD's.

it can't always. my son had been going to a special needs school for years and now is at a college for people with special needs, he has no diagnosis of anything but they understand his needs all the same.
